they tell me all the words you cannot say
how your heart breaks because of what you've seen
because you feel unwanted
because you feel alone

your eyes tell me of a child who needs a mom
and a dad
and a family
someone to kiss them goodnight
someone to hold when they're scared

your eyes look to mine
for comfort
for love
for rest
for friendship...

those beautiful eyes
i see a twinkle in them when we hug
and laugh
and then you smile...
oh those smiles I wish I could keep ingrained in my memory forever...
smiles of hope...
and of joy....

but then it's gone....
in an instant
as you remember that we'll be gone soon
and you'll still be longing for a family
and for somewhere to belong
